The iconic Western Auto sign, seen in this file photo from the Kansas City Star, is being restored and should come back to life sometime this summer.

The iconic neon Western Auto sign in downtown Kansas City is undergoing restoration. The man responsible for the sign's existence is George Pepperdine, a native Kansan who founded Western Auto Supply Company and later, the college that became Pepperdine University. What's the name of his Kansas hometown?

The Missouri General Assembly is convening a special session to consider whether to impeach Governor Eric Greitens.  Only 14 governors have ever faced impeachment.  But who was the first governor to be impeached in America?  Yes, it's someone from Kansas.  Name that governor!  (Hat tip to KCUR reporter Sam Zeff for inspiring today's question!)

This carte-de-visite is a composite of Native American images believed to have been made in the late 1860s and early 1870s by William S. Soule. At least some of the images were likely made in Indian Territory; some may have been made in Kansas. The featured photo in the center of this composite is Satanta, the Kiowa chief. Q: Who said the following: "I don't want to settle. I love to roam all over the prairies. There I feel free and happy, but when we settle down we grow pale and die."? (Hint: There's a town in southwest Kansas named after this famous Native American.)

Mark Hamill, known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies recently said on Twitter that he wants to visit Kansas. Was he serious? So far, no one seems to know. (Image by Lucasfilm)

Q: Actor Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, was recently asked on Twitter where he has never been but wants to go. His one word answer was "Kansas." Hamill didn't elaborate. Another Star Wars actor already makes routine business trips to Kansas. Name the Star Wars actor who gets his aircraft (and maybe his spacecraft) regularly serviced in Wichita.

Space is the place at our next Cinema a Go-Go! Hop a satellite and join us on Friday, April 20, when we unleash a pair of adorably cheesy sci-fi epics from the 1950s and '60s, both in glorious black-and-white.

The Designated Survivor is typically kept in a secure and undisclosed location. We know where it. In fact, we're there right now. But we are not allowed to tell you where we are.
KPR Staff Fri, 04/20/2018 - 09:00

Q: When all the nation's leaders are gathered in one place at the same time (such as during the State of the Union Address or a presidential inauguration), one American citizen is designated to keep the federal government functioning in the event of a catastrophic event. This person is known as the "Designated Survivor." Two people born in Wichita have served in this capacity. Name either of them.

YOUR support is more important now than ever.

Windmills, both new and old (like this one in Stafford County), are a common feature of the Kansas landscape. Can you name another one? (Photo by J. Schafer)
KPR Staff Fri, 03/30/2018 - 09:10

Q: "Torn Ribbon," "Beerbower's Two Point" and "Hyde's Spur Wheel" are all examples of a ubiquitous item that arrived in Kansas in the 1800s. Many versions of this item are still in use today across the state. The answer isn't windmills, so what is it?

KPR Staff Fri, 03/02/2018 - 08:22

Q: This is the first Olympics where singles and pairs figure skaters were allowed to perform to music with lyrics. Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan, a three-time world champion, skated to a 1977 song. What was the name of the song... and what's the name of the Kansan who wrote it?

I bet my face would look good on the $10,000 bill.
