Happy Halloween! Can We Still Go Trick-or-Treating?

Health experts recommend skipping door-to-door Trick-or-Treating during the pandemic but offer guidance on other types of Halloween fun.

As typical Halloween celebrations do not allow for minimizing contact with non-household members, it's important to plan early and identify safer alternatives during the coronavirus pandemic. State and national health officials are offering guidance on how to celebrate Halloween safely.

Health experts say limiting close contact with people outside your household and finding alternate ways to celebrate will help limit your exposure to the virus during Halloween and other holidays this year.

Make Trick-or-Treating Safer

  • Avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters
  • Give out treats outdoors, if possible
  • Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take
  • Wash hands before handling treats
  • Wear a mask

Wear a Mask

  • Make your cloth mask part of your costume
  • A costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask
  • Do NOT wear a costume mask over a cloth mask. It can make breathing more difficult
  • Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing
