KPR Provides News, Music & Entertainment Day & Night...Thanks to Help from Listeners Like You!

Since it first started broadcasting 69 years ago, Kansas Public Radio has been providing news, weather, music, information and entertainment to listeners in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. KPR began its broadcast life as KANU FM on September 15, 1952, using a donated FM transmitter. Over the course of nearly seven decades, KPR has expanded, erecting new transmitters and acquiring new frequencies in Atchison, Chanute, Emporia, Junction City and Manhattan. When we first started broadcasting, few listeners even had FM radios. Today, Kansas Public Radio has more than 100,000 weekly listeners. KPR is a Peabody Award winning station and has earned the Kansas Association of Broadcasters' Station of the Year award a record 19 times, more than any other radio or TV station in the state. This non-profit station, licensed to the University of Kansas, is funded primarily by listener-members and business sponsors. In fact, more than 71% of KPR's operating budget now comes from private support. We hope you'll join thousands of fellow KPR listeners and become a sustaining member today. Thanks for listening and thanks for your support.
