Pianist Po Sim Head brings the music of Francisco Pulgar-Vidal to the Kansas Public Radio Live Performance Studio August 18, 2022

Po Sim Head, also known in Kansas City as Fanny Head, has earned her doctorate in piano from KU.  She maintains a busy music school studio in Kansas City. She performed music from Peruvian composer Francisco Pulgar-Vidal and played tangos from Jaun Maria Solare and Ernesto Nazareth.

Festival Scholars visit KPR to play Grieg, Shostakovich and Brahms

Pictured are Festival Scholars from the 2022 Heartland Chamber Music Festival going on through August 6 in Kansas City at Johnson County Community College in their Midwest Trust Center for the Performing Arts. Pianist Miles Swaminathan has played for us several times. He studies with Dr. Weirich of UMKC and now that he's freshly out of high school at Olathe Northwest, he's going to play for us before heading off to his freshman year of college at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University!

The six finalists in the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition include Ilya Shmukler, who attends Park University’s International Center for Music in Parkville, Missouri. Ilya also wants to thank David Radzynski for his help and encouragement, along with Stan Ioudenitch, Kenny Broberg, Behzod Abduraimov and many others. Jihyun Oh plays Bach in the Kansas Public Radio Live Performance Studio May 25, 2022

Kansas City pianist Jihyun Oh, who is working on her doctorate in music from UMKC, came to KPR to play a few selections she'll feature in her all Bach recital June 4, 1 p.m., at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. Listen as she plays the opening two movements of Bach's Italian Concerto, the opening Fantasy from the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in d minor, and the first three movements from the Partita No 1 for keyboard.
